Painting in the „Bavarian Forest“ from July 10th to July 13th
We arrived at Runding on Thursday, July 10th at Christiane´s hotel. A very hearty welcome, just easy-going – here everybody could feel the atmosphere of a family-run hotel.
In the afternoon we made use of the wonderful weather and relaxed at the natural pool.
After that we had supper in one of the „beer gardens“ in Runting, the last members of the group joined us. All members of the group naturally got on easily with each other and we spent the evening together.
Friday, July 11th : after breakfast - which we had outside as there was splendid sunshine - we started the painting course. Everybody was excited.
Our tour guide Martin Ludwig gave a short introduction and explained the different painting techniques: Watercolour, acryl and pastel chalk. His students worked with copies which they chose beforehand. Mr Ludwig pointed out the various levels of difficulty and had a helping hand with the sketches. The participants preferred pastel chalk or acryl colours and after excitement flawed the first paintings came into being. The first part of the course finished at around 2 pm and we all relaxed in the wonderful garden of the hotel.
On Saturday, July 12th the group made an excursion to the ruins of Runding´s castle. Having arrived there, the paint group exercised free-hand painting. Mr Ludwig showed a wide range of motifs with main emphasis on foreground and background of the painting.
Our sketches were drawn with pencils and the details were finished off with charcoal, Indian Ink and white chalk. In the afternoon we took another 2 painting hours in the hotel where we learned about the technique of painting with water colours.
In the afternoon our group was honoured by the visit of Rundings mayor who was accompanied by the local member of the Bundestag (Lower House of Parliament). They wanted to learn about the artistic progress of our painting group. While having coffee and cake together we not only discussed artistic topics.
In the evening we met in Cham at an Italian restaurant for our final dinner.
On Sunday July 13th it rained cats and dogs and the group painted in the lobby of the hotel. We worked again with copies on motifs of Runding. Unfortunately time went by too fast and all were highly motivated to continue painting at home. During the final meeting Mr Ludwig dealt out lots of praise and little criticism; the group said thanks to the Schreiner family for their fantastic service and this surely would not be the last painting course to take place at this hotel.
The next painting tour is planned for July 9th to July 12th in 2009.
