Guided Painting Tour Brasilia
dtd. Nov 22nd – Dec 06th 2008
After a quiet direct-flight from Frankfurt to Salvador we arrived there in the late evening. The owner of the Pousada awaited us at the airport and after an 1-hour drive in the hotel taxi.
Simply a paradise – warm air mixed with a smooth breeze coming from the open sea – the peaceful manner, gentle friendliness, and cheerfullness of the natives „contaminated“ us immediatley. We felt safe and sound – the best precondition for a painting course according to Martin Ludwig.
The very next morning we directly headed for the sea coming from Pousada. We didn´t trust our eyes on the first sight, for kilometres nothing else to see but lonesome beach (by the way this is the longest shore in the world – it is 3,400 km long). The water was very pleasant, however, too dangerous for swimming as there were a lot of waves.
Having come back from the beach, we were served a little local-style breakfast with lots of fresh fruit such as: melons, papaya, pineapple, fried bananas, mango, cakes, etc.
Strengthened like this, we began the painitng course.
The first day we painted with pastel chalk; course guide Martin Ludwig presented a great many motifs (even suitable for „bloody beginners“) and some of us even tried out watercolour technique.
The next 4 days of painting passed by rapidly. We tried out painting landscapes and still lives according to our personal taste.
We made good progress in doing so and were often surprised about our successful paintings – naturally due to the help of our master.
The painting course was enhanced with short trips to Praia da Forte (about 12 kms away) a newly built shopping mall leading to the old harbour. Salvador, our next destination was absolutely worthwhile seeing. It reminds a bit to Habanna and shows a multitude of pitoresque motifs. „Imbassai“ is a small village with very good restaurants, where we walked to every evening for having dinner together or just a couple of drinks. A couple of days we even dedicated to „relaxation“ only. We sunbathed, went swimming or were just reading a good book. In conclusion we can say that there is a good place for a painting holiday.
