Travellog Franconian Switzerland08

Painting and hill-walking in the Franconian Switzerland from October 11th to 12th 2008

On Saturday in the morning we met at our bed & breakfast place Heid in Wohlmannsgesees, situated between Ebermannstadt and Gößweinstein. All were excited about what to come and in fact – nobody was disappointed in the end. At a short pit-stop on our way at the ruin of the castle Neidek we discovered an old limewood tree. Primeval and fascinating – a reason to get out our pencils and charcoal immediately and to start painting.
Martin, our course guide, showed us how to use charcoal on a blank sheet of paper. Having arrived at the ruin finally, we could find more wonderful motifs in various degrees of artistic challenge.Martin animated us to focus on the working out of stonework and the holding of perspective. This time we worked with white chalk on shaded paper. Very interesting and informative artisic work. Comming back, we had a jolly stop at a pub in Muggendorf. While walking home, all of us eagerly collected suitable materials for creating a stil life, which came into being in pastel chalk during our stay at the bed & breakfast place. Enthusiastically and totally motivated we worked up to dinner.
After an excellent meal we chilled out with a good glass of beer or wine. On sunday in the morning we exercised indoor watercolour painting at our bed and breakfast place as it still was too cold outside. Around lunchtime we headed for the old castle in Burggailenreuth. A wonderful autumn day with brilliant light reflections. We trained on the ink technique whilst depicting architectural motifs. Later in the afternoon, it was time to say good-bye to all really friendly members of course and our guide, who taught us a lot and trained us patiently.
