Report on the guided painting tour by Marion and Manfred Soltwedel
July 18th to July 25th 2008
This year another painting tour with Martin Ludwig took place at the hotel „Heiderose“ between Vitte and Neuendorf on the wonderful island of Hiddensee. The weather was extremely pleasant this time. There was only one rainy day which the participants used to work intensively on finishing their sketches and to exercise the different techniques of painting. The remaining days the island showed itself in its best manner with all its summerly colours and shades. We (beginners as well as professionals) soon became a „painting team“ and amazingly well we came up with surprisingly good results every day. „You only can wonder about your own attainments and skills …“, said one of beginners participating in the course. No matter if we tried on painting the heather landscape in direction Neuendorf, or the blue barn yard in Vitte, or the beachwhen looking at the Ostsee and a light house, or the so-called „large island view“ in southern direction, everything was banned on canvas or paper in watercolour, acryl or pastell chalk, after the respective exercises we did beforehand.
The gentle and peaceful but nevertheless professional way of our „painting instructor“ Martin helped us in succeeding. He gave us feed-back and motivated everybody permanentely and often recommended to try out something new or even unknown. Thus, the daily portion of 4 hours of painting and the whole week passed by rapidly. Even our „paint free“ day, as well as the daily (voluntary) meeting in the evenings to talk about our results, were intensively used to exchange experiences or to get to know each other better and better. Finally the last day of our painting trip had come and everybody was allowed to exhibit his or her ouevre and our master judged on it. This day left us with just one wish – let´s book another painting holiday with Martin Ludwig, no matter if it will take place on Hiddensee, La Palma or in Bavaria. It´s just a lot of fun.
