Travellog in the South of France

Painting in the South of France

One morning in September a bus left Kronach. It made a short stop in Bamberg to take on more people and then headed off for France, where we stayed from the 27th September to the 3rd October.
The very same day at around 7 pm we took up residence in the South of France and we moved into our rooms.
The group soon melted together and ending the day with an excellent meal at a superb French restaurant just around the corner – we were looking forward to the artistic challenge to come.
The next day at 10:00 am we started. First our guide Martin Ludwig explained the various techniques of painting and we started to paint motifs from copies such as postcards in order to gain some practice.
The technique of painting freely we started to learn at walks to Gassin or walks along the coast. The Peninsula St. Tropez shows various motifs and is framed by smaller villages like Rannetuelle or Gassin, which make a painter feel enthusiastic.
Relaxation was found both at the sea - the water still had a temperature of 23°C and in our wonderful residial garden. Very often we just made sketches or fotos by walking around. Later we worked these out in detail at our holiday residence. Our guide Martin Ludwig showed a great deal of patience with our small steps of artistic progress.
