Report on our Painting Tour to Portugal/Algarve from March, 12th to March, 19th 2008
On Wednesday we flew from Nuremberg airport down to Faro. The Algarve already showed us its sunny side from the very beginning and we had sunny weather all week long.
We passed endless rows of hotels built from concrete inside a bus and could await to see our hotel. At the arrival we were not disappointed. Our hotel „Casabela“ was situated in a quiet area withing a tremendous park-like garden of about 20000 square metres. A very charming site situated above the river „Rio Asade“ with a wonderful view over the coast from Praiada Rocha up to Lagos, and naturally a splendid sea panorama.
Via the beautiful garden we could walk down the private lane to the sandy beach – and there we could find a great many motifs. The rest of the day we strolled around trying to get to know the environment or we just relaxed from the journey and finally a delicious dinner was served at the hotel. On Thursday at around 10:00 am we got into the subject by starting to paint a picture. Each participant painted a motif that pleased him or her. Erika was very fond of painting the rocks in acryl colour, others tried out abstract motifs and some even caught the waves in watercolour technique.
Thus, a week passed by. Our course guide Martin Ludwig again and again motivated us to draw free-hand and had a helping hand with the visualization of open-air painting. He encouraged each participant in finding and practicing his or her own style, gave valuable advice and even helped out on some of the paintings by doing some brushstrokes.
On Sunday a hill walking tour through the cliffs to Carvaero was undertaken and on Monday we took the train to Lagos where we even found time to make some sketches. In the evenings we had dinner either at the hotel or at a restaurant along the beach or in Ferugado. There were a great many of them!
Time to say good bye came slowly but surely. On Tuesday we and Mr Ludwig held the obligatory final meeting with the exhibition and consequent discussion of our ouevre. Many thanks to him! The next trip with Mr Ludwig is already planned.
